VETERAN’S GROUP DISCUSSES GOING TO WASHINGTON TO PRESS LAWMAKERS
State Legislative Chairman Interviewed About Washington Conference
AUSTIN, TEXAS – The Sons of the American Legion an organization founded in 1932 by the American Legion will be having a legislative conference in Washington, DC from February 26-29th to talk with members of congress about issues regarding veterans and military issues both abroad and here at home and a Texan will be there on capitol hill to do just that.
Our detachment will be represented at the Washington Conference by our own legislative committee chairman; Santiago J. Betancourt. The chairman whose legislative experience extends to campaigns and advising officials is our ‘son’ to go to Washington and inform our legislators on capitol hill what is needed here in Texas. He has led our committee at the Texas Capitol in Austin and was awarded the George B. Evans award from the national award for his work on the committee and bringing attention to our programs and legislative needs this past year.
The chairman will be on the radio in an interview on the 16th of January with a radio host in Florida. The chairman will be talking about the conference and issues as well as goals that he has coming out of the conference.

I will be heading to Washington to press our lawmakers on issues involving national security, the national veterans highway as well as programs of the SAL and issues veterans throughout Texas may have at American Legion posts throughout Texas.”
The Sons of the American Legion is comprised of 300,000 members across the United States and abroad. The purpose of the Sons of the American Legion is to take care of veterans across the United States. Its membership is lead by the states or “Detachments”; Texas has its own detachment and comprises of roughly 7000 members.
