Sons,
It has been amazing here in Washington, DC
representing YOU at the Washington Conference of the American Legion
and of the Sons of the American Legion. We arrived on Friday with a day
on Saturday to scope out DC and explore the various places where our
government resides.
On Sunday, we laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unkown
as a national organization then proceded to get the honor of assisting
National Commander - Jim Roberts (FL) lay a wreath at the Woman's
Memorial there in Arlington National Cemetery and then went onto laying
YOUR Detachment wreath at the WWII memorial. The Chairman picked this
memorial in memory of his favorite veteran from his post - Horace
Johnson who fought in WWII. He is a veteran that is sorely missed both
by the chairman and his post. He was always supportive of the
Chairman's work and the squadron (Pictures below.)
On Monday, we will be attending sessions of
legislative workshops on how to make our committee better and stand out
in legislation both in the state house in Austin and here in Washington
with the delegation that all of us know as well as appear on the radio
once again for the priorities of the SAL.
On Tuesday, we will be meeting with Rep. Culberson and
Sen. Cornyn about our legislative priorities as well as distributing
materials to members who could not meet with us this week.
On Wednesday, we will have some last minute meetings
then leaving back to Texas.
*We are encouraged by the compliment by Commander
Roberts on our radio appearance and by the highlighting of YOUR
committee by the National Legislative Commission.*
*WE WILL BE SENDING PRESS RELEASES TOMMOROW ON OUR
MEETINGS ON THE HILL TO DISTRIBUTE TO OUTLETS"
Serving our
veterans everyday,
Santiago J.
Betancourt
State Legislative Committee
Chairman
