Sons,
Our government routinely takes it's time to spend money and rarely to preserve and or cut the money they do have. After, all it's washington and that's how it works in that town. Tonight though, America is finding itself actually having the opportunity to pay their bills because of a compromise by both Republicans and Democrats in Washington.
This deal will probably be voted on fully in the next day and will become law, here are a couple of tidbits of the deal and how it will effect veterans.
1.The deal will cut close to $2.5 Trillion in spending for low level programs, government offices and unnecessary items from spending in the federal government for the next 10 years.
2.A two-step process in voting and increase in the debt ceiling.
3.It also clears the way for a joint committee of both bodies of the congress to convene to explore deficit spending in Washington.
4.50% of cuts are to be coming from defense spending.
5.Medicaid is not being affected by the cuts.
6.Also changing formula for social security saving $100 billion.
My statement on this deal is as follows:
"As chairman of the Legislative Committee for the Detachment of Texas - Sons of the American Legion, I applaud the decision of the congress to make these reforms but request that members of congress make sure that these cuts to the pentagon and defense are cuts that do not affect our active duty personnel in the armed forces or our veterans throughout America."
